The God Dream You Never Had

You have never dreamed of God,

not even a daydream.

You never woke from sleep

and remembered an encounter…

All of those depictions,

your whole life, you’ve seen,

the white bearded Zeus

of Michangelo and Blake,

And the movie actors strutting around,

George Burns, or if your prefer, Morgan Friedman,

or more ominously,

just a booming voice in the dark wilderness,

None of them, have graven God

into your dreams,

no thunderous commandments,

no cold rebuke,

no illuminated revelation,

no fatherly advice,

no simple embrace.
